Gabriel Zada, MD, MS, FAANS
Dr. Gabriel Zada is a highly experienced neurosurgeon-scientist specializing in the treatment of brain, pituitary, and skull base tumors using both minimally invasive and open surgical approaches. He has performed over 3,000 complex brain tumor operations and is internationally recognized for his expertise in minimally invasive cranial tumor surgery. Dr. Zada completed advanced fellowship training in endoscopic endonasal and keyhole surgical techniques for brain and skull base tumors, having trained with pioneers in the field including Drs. Marty Weiss, Steven Giannotta, and Ed Laws.
Dr. Zada is a Professor of Neurosurgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and is Program Director of the USC Neurosurgery Residency Program. He has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles, primarily focused on brain and pituitary tumors and skull base surgery. He served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Neurosurgery from 2019-2025 and is a principal investigator funded by the NIH. His research at the USC Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute explores the genomics and epigenetics of brain and pituitary tumors. Dr. Zada is also co-author and editor of The Atlas of Sellar and Parasellar Lesions, downloaded over 250,000 times, and the recent textbook Subcortical Neurosurgery. He serves as a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) consultant for the NFL.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Zada is an advocate and leader in the brain tumor community, having served on the Clinical Advisory Committee of the American Brain Tumor Association. He remains committed to advancing research and developing new techniques that improve long-term outcomes and offer cures for both malignant and benign brain tumors.
